This event was ably organized by Garland(Butch)\nWilson.&nbsp; This gathering afforded the opportunity to visit with\nfriends from elementary school and junior high.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; <font size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: 13pt\"><b><span lang=\"en-US\">At\n2 o'clock on Saturday we visited The Cronkite Museum on the Missouri\nWestern campus.&nbsp; This interesting memorial is a tribute to the\nwell known St Joseph native.&nbsp; You probably recall Cronkite's\ncousin Kay who was three years ahead of us at Central and later\nbecame mayor of Kansas City.&nbsp; Robert Vartabedian, President of\nMissouri Western, was part of the inspiration behind the\nestablishment of the memorial.<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; <font size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: 13pt\"><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Between\n4 and 6 o'clock the class assembled in a banquet hall in the same\nbuilding housing the Cronkite memorial.&nbsp; Following two social\nhours we sat down for dinner.&nbsp; University President Robert\nVartabedian provided interesting commentary about the university and\nthe Cronkite Memorial.&nbsp; He also was introduced to our\nscholarship winner, Rachel McKeighan, who will attend Missouri\nWestern.&nbsp; We enjoyed good food and conversation and were\nentertained by Dwight's reminiscences and skits.<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; &nbsp;<font size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: 13pt\"><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Following\ndessert I introduced Rachel to the assembled group.&nbsp; She gave a\nmoving speech which included a poignant poem that she had written.&nbsp;\nShe is the third individual to be awarded a scholarship by our\nclass.&nbsp; The last two years we were able to offer a $2,000\nscholarship.&nbsp; Rachel is truly a remarkable person.&nbsp; In\nspite of unbelievable obstacles, she graduated with a 3.75 GPA while\nliving on her own, helping her younger sister, and working two jobs.\nShe also qualified as an EMT while in high school.&nbsp; She will be\nattending Missouri Western in the honors nursing program but has a\ndesire to go to medical school and become an ER surgeon.&nbsp;\nAlthough our scholarship is relatively small, it will lessen somewhat\nher work requirements during the first year of college.&nbsp; The\nscholarship has also given Rachel confidence that there is a whole\nclass of friends supporting her efforts.&nbsp; More than ever I feel\nthat this scholarship is helping individuals&nbsp; achieve their\ngoals.&nbsp; At this moment our scholarship account is valued at\n$44,500.&nbsp; This amount will permit a $2,000 award per year in\nperpetuity.&nbsp; Those of us who have been involved in the\nscholarship process would like to see&nbsp; the amount in the fund\nincrease allowing a larger award each year.&nbsp; If you would like\nto donate further or make an initial donation please contact me or\nBob Fitzsimmons or The Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri.<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<font size=\"3\" style=\"font-size: 13pt\"><b><span lang=\"en-US\">On\nSunday morning Errol and Sherry Taylor graciously opened their home\nfor a delightful brunch.&nbsp; It was a beautiful morning and the\nfood and atmosphere were a fitting conclusion to a wonderful and\nsatisfying experience.&nbsp; No doubt this will be our final\nreunion.&nbsp; Thanks to all who were able to attend and best wishes\nto those who were unable to be in St. Joe.&nbsp; One of the benefits\nof social media is that we can keep up with each other from a\ndistance.&nbsp; Best regards to a truly remarkable class.&nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; &nbsp;Jack Stuber<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 100%\"><br>\n<\/p>\n<\/body>\n<\/html>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This website is the creation of Don Packwood, your class nerd in High School, and still a nerd.\u00a0 I also created the 50th reunion website for the class, and it still available from this updated website.
